Nelson Business's suffering financially from Covid19 Opportunity
I SEE A LOT OF ROOM IN COST ESTIMATES TO BE A SUCCESSFUL BIDDER
City bike lane on third St and Nelson ave to Vernon about 2 km total.
Possibly $670,000 or more with extras available for bid opportunities.
Considering the plight of so many businesses in the city regarding closures due to the Covid 19
event, I see a possibility of some financial assistance.
I am not sure who to contact in the city, start with the mayor would be my recommendation.
It would be good to know who is behind the project and where it all started so you have a
contact and can get your foot in the door.
Some estimates of the $606,000 project (Newspaper item states up to $670,000).
Below from the Grant application estimates:
Another Bicycle Route Sign Approaching High Street Place
Bicycle Route Sign on corner below High Street Place
Bicycle Route Sign below Morgan St. intersection to High Street
Yet another bicycle route sign on High st.
Bicycle Route sign on intersection corner at Hume School
Considering the fact all these bicycle route signs are already in place, as above, it looks like a great opportunity be a successful bidder on their estimated $37,440 for signage and painting.
A possible EXTRA's to bid changing all signs facing the wrong way for vehicles if the option for ONE WAY vehicle traffic is implemented..
I find it unlikely residents of Fairview will accept having to stop on Third St. for bicycle traffic.
Particularly because of the huge danger in winter of vehicles sliding through on the hill or having difficulty starting again uphill. This would be dangerous to bicycles going past, in the likelihood of any bicycles during winter.
No data was collected regarding Fairview vehicle traffic vs bicycle traffic using Third St in winter, I don't see this change in Stop signs happening. Any logical thinker would presume the requirement for all these vehicles to stop and start on hills vs possible bicycle traffic doesn't make sense. No need to collect data. Although the city did have someone sitting at the Hume School corner in January counting vehicles for some reason to support this grant?
Although one writer of a letter of support from the Nelson bicycle coalition resplied to my concerns telling me its a "build it and they will come" project. I am not entirely sure if this person represents any reasonable bicycle population in this city. But letters of support from the fire chief and city transit supervisor cause me to question their legitimacy as arms length unbiased supporters for this expense.
Below from the grant application one of the 14 Third St. sidewalk ramps. Some possibility they won't receive that money, the grant eligibility says its not for infrastructure use. I don't see what this has to do with the bicycle route.
Estimate is $12,000 per corner for 14 corners total $168,000 I am sure one can easily sharpen their pencil to get this project and do very well.
