SOLAR IN BC IS DIRTY POWER
Every Grid Tied PV solar Panel in BC adds to the Province's Carbon Footprint
Unless one can avoid the burning of a non renewable fuel like coal in a conventional power plant, which can't happen in BC, solar is dirty power adding to GHG's.

BC Utilities Commission DENIES solar project.
The recent Kelowna solar project CSPP (Community Solar Pilot Program) was denied by the BC Utilities Commission one can read it here Final Order and Reasons
Some excerpts from that document.
the Commission must accept the capital expenditure schedule, in whole or in part, if it determines that making the expenditures would be in the public interest or, reject the schedule
The BCOAPO (retired person org) submits
- reasons customers give for participation in a community solar project (i.e. saving money, participation in a green project and GHG emissions reduction).
there is a disconnect between what customers expect from participation and what will actually occur
it is clear that customers will not save money
BCOAPO also notes that the actual environmental benefit of the CSPP is negligible which is also contrary to customer expectations
BCOAPO in principle supports environmentally sustainable energy but believes this project offers “little real benefit” as it neither displaces GHG-generated energy nor fulfills FBC’s clean energy goals
The risk is one can opt in for a couple of years, see sentence below
“customers may choose not to participate once the current economics of solar are understood"
Balfour's solar project was created by the Pembina Institue of Alberta, Dave Lovekin, director, a non-profit group advocating reduction of fossil fuels.
Dave Lovekin director, appeared at a public meeting regarding the Nelson Community Solar Garden.
In those minutes which you can read about here he said 50% of our power comes from Alberta coal and gas?????
But then it was him or the Pembina Institute that came up with the Balfour project.
below copied from those minutes:
Dave Lovekin: • Why solar in Nelson? o Amount of electricity at Bonnington serves half of Nelson’s electrical needs o Other 50% comes from Alberta which is coal based or natural gas –
Curiously no negative comments, mine or others appear in the minutes!
Solar is dirty power. it cannot begin to compete with clean green BC waterpower.
Regarding the Nelson Community Solar Garden
At a public meeting I asked the manager of Nelson hydro, Alex Love, what makes the solar garden power green? His reply "Nobody said it was green".
You would be hard pressed to find anyone who participated in the Nelson project to know it wasn't green. The media storm relentlessly inferred, refered and associated it as green.
Why did the churches, co ops, schools and others buy in to the project?
would anyone think this wasn't GREEN energy?
