The Balfour Solar Scam

If Site C is going ahead, then BC will have excess power for sometime into the future, instantly any public money in BC for solar , although always unnecessary, is truly worthless.

Even Energy Minister Mungall gets it.  The utility is paying around $30,000 a year to some individuals and organizations, Mungall said. “That adds up.”

                                  HOW THE SCAM WORKS

The grant requirement:
To be selected for funding, projects must demonstrate a positive return on investment and significant community impact.

Using Balfours method to show a positive return everyone qualifies.

You could also  find the engineer who did the Nelson Community Solar garden study.

The Ministry of Education finds the right person to do their extensive study to save money.

Oct 22, CBT announced  $900,000 for public buildings energy systems, that can translate into a huge loss of income to Nelson hydro for all time.

 And solar adds to GHG's.

Nelson hydro will be paying full retail credit for excess Balfour solar power while losing profits from waterpower.

Above the graph for annual power from a Nelson solar system, almost all power made when we don't need it.

In winter low water levels seen above,  when Nelson hydro has to buy excess power from Fortis hydro.  Nelson,  4 time losers.

1.  CBT trust grant money that could really help societies priorites lost to feelgood worthless solar.

2.  Nelson hydro income lost from otherwise cleaner greener waterpower sales to these buildings.

3.   Nelson hydro credits these solar projects full retail for their excess power all earned from spring runoff through high summer water levels when every reservoir in the pacific northwest is overflowing and you can't give power away.

4. In winter Balfour cashes in their their full retail earned summer solar credits when Nelson hydro is buying excess waterpower from Fortis at a higher rate than Nelson hydro's own  summer generation.

Half of Nelson hydro customers live outside the city, their electric bill pays for all this too, and they are already paying full retail for the feelgood Nelson Community Solar garden power.

This spring BC Hydro applied to the BCUC "effective immediatly" to no longer buy anyones excess solar power.  Likely because of an announced $30M solar project estimating $5M annual income paid by BC Hydro for power they don't need and can make a profit with from their own waterpower.

Same things is here now in Nelson.

Fortis electric, a business only allows one to instal a system to meet their own needs.  If any excess were to occurr its a credit against future power paid at their wholesale rates.

Only an idiot would waste money on a solar system in a Fortis area.  Its the political subsidies that existed in BC Hydro area until now and still exist here in Nelson thanks to the solar garden joke.

Solar doesn't work here, I have been trying to help this city understand, no luck so far.
Cormack denies my request to talk to council.  I met with Alex Love manager of hydro, sent data to him his consultant showing no possible economic case for solar payback.  He tells me I am wasting his time and will block my emails.   Then he finds a consultant to provide a business case for solar, from a computer program full of error inputs.  Corrected, I pointed out the errors, there was no business case.  He's the highest paid person in this city?

Finally I am no longer the lone person screaming do something that makes sense.

A recent Kelowna solar project was denied by the BC Utilities Commission-reason -  it was of no benefit to anyone.  The BCOAPO (old age pensioners org) submission said not only was it of no benefit it did nothing to reduce GHG's and all risks were borne by ratepayers.

Even Fortis made the statement  "It will be a challenge when the public discovers the economics of solar"

The media suggests this is green energy, its anything but, it adds to the provincial carbon footprint.

Why did Balfour spend $12,000 to replace this roof?

All the penetrations necessary for solar panel racking create too much of a leak risk on a metal roof.

The Nelson Community solar garden in six months of winter won't make enough power for ONE house.

Nelson hydro has sold power to BC Hydro, the contract price 0.7c/kWh.

The entire year of solar garden power sold to BC Hydro wouldn't make us $500.

Warren Buffett is credited with having said, “Does management think the tooth fairy pays for capital expenditures?”   TAXPAYERS GRANT MONEY

IF SITE C IS GOING AHEAD AND CREATING A SURPLUS OF ENERGY FOR BC IN THE FUTURE THAT INSTANTLY MAKES ANY PUBLIC MONEY WASTED ON SOLAR POWER

The Solar Garden directly under the fog created by our dam's mist, they never collected data
Who installs solar systems so the front row shades the back row?  Nelson.

Does it really matter if the front row shades the back row?  The solar garden is a worthless joke.
This will be the Nelson solar garden, as it quickly becomes the technological dinosaur it is while every Nelson hydro customer continues to pay out the 25 year contracts given to those who opted in

The solar garden was never installed properly, its already beginning to self destruct with frost heaves and warping.

We will be further ahead if its disconnected and we let water make the power and some profits, unfortunatly we are stuck for another 24 years in the contract to pay full retail for this solar power so that money can be distributed among those who opted in thinking they were saving the planet.
